Lowering screen time for kids
This week, I decided to teach my little sister and her friend how to play a new game after noticing that they often spent time on their phones even when they were together. I wanted to encourage them to interact more face-to-face and enjoy doing something engaging without screens. At first, explaining the rules took some patience, but it soon became a fun and relaxed activity. Watching them become more involved in the game and genuinely enjoy playing together made me feel glad that I had created an opportunity for them to connect in a more meaningful way.
This experience connects to CAS outcomes such as service, communication, and awareness of others. By taking the initiative to introduce a screen-free activity, I was able to support their well-being and promote healthier habits in a positive way. Teaching the game helped me develop patience, leadership, and communication skills, while also showing me how small actions can influence others’ behavior. Overall, the experience reinforced the idea that service can be simple but still meaningful when it encourages connection and mindful interaction.
