VOLUNTEERING AT THE STABLE

Recently, I spent a day volunteering at a local horse stable, and it brought back so many memories. I used to love riding when I was younger, but I stopped a few years ago, so it felt really special to be back around horses again. I helped with feeding, cleaning stalls, brushing the horses, and refilling water buckets. It was physically demanding but also peaceful and grounding to be outdoors, working closely with the animals. The smell of hay, the sounds of hooves, and the calm presence of the horses made me realize how much I’ve missed this environment.

This experience helped me connect with several CAS learning outcomes. I demonstrated initiative and commitment by volunteering my time to help care for the horses and support the staff. Being in a team setting also strengthened my collaboration and communication skills, as I had to listen, follow instructions, and work alongside others. Most of all, it gave me a chance to reflect on how past interests still hold value in my life. Returning to something I used to love reminded me that reconnecting with old passions can be just as meaningful as discovering new ones.
