Behind the Scenes of Šimtadienis
This week, I took on a creative project and helped make invitations for Šimtadienis, one of the most important events for 12th graders. The process was challenging because we had to create around 180 invitations, carefully writing each name by hand and sealing them with wax. I worked on this with a few other people, and while it was time-consuming, it was also rewarding to see the final result. Beyond the invitations, I was actively involved in the event itself. I worked in the reception area, greeting the 12th graders as they arrived at our hotel-themed Šimtadienis. Additionally, I helped organize and run the cake-cutting ceremony, ensuring everything went smoothly. It was a stressful but fulfilling experience, and in the end, all the effort paid off.
Through this experience, I achieved several CAS learning outcomes. I developed organizational and leadership skills by planning and managing different aspects of the event, from the invitations to the cake-cutting ceremony. The process also required perseverance and commitment, as writing and sealing so many invitations by hand was tiring but necessary for the event’s success. Additionally, working at the reception improved my communication and collaboration skills, as I had to greet and guide the guests in a professional manner while working with a team. Lastly, the experience reinforced my ability to demonstrate resilience and work under pressure, especially when dealing with last-minute challenges. Despite the stress, I learned the importance of dedication and teamwork in making an event memorable.
