Volunteering at the Animal Shelter

This week, I returned to the animal shelter for my second volunteering session. I was tasked with walking the dogs again, but this time it felt a lot easier to manage them. Compared to my first session, I felt more confident and in control, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The only downside was the freezing weather—I quickly realized I should have worn more layers! Despite the cold, I loved spending time with the dogs. It felt great knowing I was helping the shelter while also getting in some healthy exercise for myself.

Through this experience, I achieved several CAS learning outcomes. I demonstrated perseverance and commitment by showing up for my second session and completing my task, even in the chilly weather. I also developed new skills, as I learned how to better handle and control the dogs during our walks. Additionally, this experience highlighted the importance of engaging with issues of global importance, as animal shelters rely on volunteers to provide care and support for animals in need. Volunteering has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to continue contributing to this cause while enjoying the company of these wonderful dogs.
