Rediscovering Watercolors

This week, I decided to pick up my watercolors and paint for the first time in a while. I used to love drawing and painting, but I stopped because I’ve been so busy and, honestly, I’ve never been particularly good at it. However, this session reminded me how fun and relaxing it can be to create art. I started by choosing a template and sketching a girl, then I designed her outfit and brought it all to life with watercolors. Even though my skills are a little rusty, I really enjoyed the process of blending colors and watching the drawing transform.

Through this experience, I achieved several CAS learning outcomes. I worked on developing new skills by revisiting watercolors and experimenting with designing outfits, which challenged my creativity in a way I haven’t explored in a while. I also demonstrated commitment to personal growth by stepping back into an activity I’d set aside, even though I knew I wasn’t particularly skilled at it. Most importantly, I found this experience to be a valuable reminder of the importance of making time for relaxing and creative hobbies, even amidst a busy schedule. It’s something I hope to do more often moving forward.
