Volunteering at the Animal Shelter: Helping Out and Overcoming Challenges
My classmate Monika and I recently volunteered at the animal shelter "Lesė." We spent the early Sunday morning walking several dogs and helping to clean their dog houses. While it was a rewarding experience, we did face some challenges—some of the dogs weren't trained, making them harder to walk. One even ripped Monika's scarf and got our jeans dirty!
Despite these difficulties, I really enjoyed the experience of helping the animals, and I plan to volunteer again soon.
This activity helped me achieve several CAS learning outcomes. I undertook new challenges by working with untrained dogs, which required patience and adaptability. I also demonstrated collaboration and perseverance, as Monika and I worked together to care for the dogs, even when things got tough. Lastly, I engaged with an issue of global significance by contributing to the well-being of animals in need, and this experience helped me appreciate the importance of volunteering in my community.
